App switching restarts TOS on iOS device – please help
Guys, not sure if this has been happening to you and hopefully someone has an explanation/solution to this problem. It has been bothering me for quite a while now. I will be forever grateful if this can be fixed without too much trouble. =)
My situation: I play TOS on my iPad 3 (iOS 6.1) and Samsung Galaxy 4S (Android 4.2.2) devices. This problem, however, only happens on my iPad 3. If I am logged into TOS on my iPad 3, I can switch to another app (by either pressing the HOME button or using the 4-finger swipe gesture), but when I try to switch back, TOS always restarts itself. It is OK if I am not in a battle or at least not in the middle of an SM or GM battle - I only lose the guild chat history. However, if this happens during an SM or GM battle (say if I need to double check the stage info in Safari), even though I get to continue the battle after TOS restarts, my battle result will not be ranked and I will not get any reward after winning the battle.
I understand that TOS implemented a security measure to punish players who close the app during an SM or GM battle, but switching to a different app is different from closing the app, right?
I don’t know if other people are having the same problem on their iOS device. Does the problem lie within my iPad 3 or TOS itself? I always thought this was by design until I started playing TOS on my new Samsung Galaxy 4S a couple of months ago. This problem doesn’t happen on Galaxy 4S. I can switch to another app for few seconds to few hours and TOS will remain active when I want to switch back.
Your help is much appreciated.
Oh, another question. Could be a very stupid one. How do you log out from TOS properly? Do I just HOME out and then shut it from the multitasking bar? =)

Wish I could help, I find it immensely annoying too ... but I use Android (HTC One) and it closes intermittently if I switch. The only thing that comes close to keeping it on is if I plug it into a charger, but sometimes that doesn't work either. Not getting any reward is horrible though, I've never had that happen to me before; not ranked yup.

Hmm I never had this problem with switching programs for iPad. Could it be the iPad version as well? I'm using iPad 4 and always keep my iOS up to date.

I'm also on an iPad3 and have seen this issue with apps losing their state after switching happen occasionally. I'm on iOS 7.1.1 currently, but have had my iPad since 5.x, so I don't think it's related to a particular iOS version.
Instead, I believe it's memory related. Try actually closing ToS and all other running apps (bring up the app switcher and then swipe up on the app to close it). Even though ToS appears to be restarting, the app itself isn't actually closing/releasing its in-use memory to the OS first (the restart is just re-connecting/re-logging in even though you're seeing the splash/loading screen just as you would starting from scratch).
When I've run into this problem, it's generally been when I've had a lot of apps running for a long period of time. And some apps are bigger memory hogs than others. My daughter plays Minecraft on my iPad, and I often see more "weirdness" with app behavior (switching or just using) when it's running in the background. Hearthstone is another one. It's worthwhile to get in the habit of actually closing apps instead of leaving them running in the background in perpetuity.
The other ToS memory related problem I run into are the graphical glitches, such as the boundary crossing skill adding three rows of runes but the runes not actually displaying (invisible) until you move them. That's a tell-tale sign for me that it's time to completely close/restart ToS and to close out other running apps while I'm at it. Doing this always resolves the problem - at least until the next time I run my device low on memory

Re: App switching restarts TOS on iOS device – please help
Thanks for the information Fret. My iPad 3 is on iOS 6.1. I haven't updated it to 7.1 yet. You could be right about the issue being memory related, because a few of my other 'big' games have this very same issue (though I don't play them any more), but the 'smaller' games and other apps are all fine.
When I run TOS, I do make sure I only have minimum amount of other apps running. I normally only have Safari running at the background. I never experienced any graphical issues or other wired behaviors in TOS. It did, however, lock up twice after the 5.0 update.
Anyway, this issue is just annoying, but not to the extend of game breaking. I guess I just need to live with it. =)
